Gibraltar Marches - Following on from a number of smaller demonstrations against the sell out by the British Government, a demonstration was called by the Government of Gibraltar. This was attended by 25,000 people (police estimate)
|
It was a demonstration for the old people, who turned out in force.
It was a demonstration for the children, who came on foot and on wheels. It was an event that everyone came to, including the workers that the MoD tried to discourage from participating. Peter Hain in London commented that "The Government of Gibraltar Lacks Leadership" however, Peter Caruana called for the people of Gibraltar to take to the streets and almost EVERYONE did. For the first time there was live TV coverage of the event by the international media, including the BBC and SKY. These pictures cannot convey the scale of the largest event that has ever taken place in Gibraltar, and one which passed off without damage to property or injury. You just had to be there. |
WE THE PEOPLE OF GIBRALTAR HERE GATHERED DECLARE AS
FOLLOWS:-
The future of Gibraltar, both in practice and in principle, including our sovereignty, can only be decided by the people of Gibraltar in exercise of our right to self determination. We REJECT AND CONDEMN, as a betrayal of our rights and wishes as a people, any Anglo Spanish declaration or Agreement of principles which makes in-principle sovereignty or other concessions to Spain against our wishes. WE THEREFORE CALL ON THE British Government not to enter into any such agreements and WE SAY:- YES to reasonable dialogue. YES to good, neighbourly European relations with Spain based on reasonable dialogue and mutual respect; AND NO to in-principle sovereignty or other concessions to Spain against our wishes. |
